baby for mothers day
This is a mothers day present that someone asked me to paint for their wife... I didn't think it was going to be as difficult as it was. Almost done, just wanted to post here so I could get some feedback from you guys, 'cuz some of you are awesome... I think I'm going to leave the perimeter unfinished so it puts the baby more in focus. love some critiques to help me improve... thank you
acrylic on canvas 16x24

Re: baby for mothers day
Well it certainly is colorful and vibrant with lots of energy! One thing I would do is to tone down the yellowness of the arms so that they match the more pinkish skin tones of the face. Also, his tongue looks yellow -- should be reddish pink (unless it's my new monitor). And, then really check and double check that the head to body proportions are correct. Hope this helps!

Re: baby for mothers day
Babies are all about softness and a transparent-pin-ish skin... maybe you could soften those dark lines along both sides of the nose-mouth. The head looks longer in height than it should be...I know very litle about colors, but it is my educated guess that you need to make some drawing`s corrections ( proportions) and maybe a low chroma pink could benefit your work, not sure here because I have not seen your image of reference....
here you can see a great example on little kids `skin tone and softness...

Good luck....

Re: baby for mothers day
I'm having trouble with the baby's orange tongue. I think the sofa/chair the baby is sitting on is too vibrant, fighting for attention. It would be nice to see a ref photo.

Re: baby for mothers day
Think the dome of the head is too high. The eyes would sit half-way between the top of the head and the chin. And agree that the skin tones would be much lighter, pinker. A baby that age would probably have a rounder belly, as well.
Perhaps tone down the colors in the sofa?

Re: baby for mothers day
I still think the head is too high. Again, the eyes should be approx midway between top of head and chin. But I like the color a whole lot better!
