Girl

I usually work in oils, but have started dabbling in digital.
I posted my first two in the digital forum, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic there, so I thought I post here.
My first two were copied from photos, but then I thought why not try copying from a painting, try to learn something of the choices an artist makes about h/v/c,
so this is after Adrian Gottlieb, a fantastic artist I found on the web, it's monochrome, and I didn't get the likeness, but I still learned a lot!
C&C gladly accepted

Re: Girl

This looks really well-formed, John- and I saw the original- not far out I would say. You show some good control of the digital medium, and master copies certainly teach a lot.

Re: Girl

Thanks Wassie, If you check out Gottliebs site, he has a few of these done in this monotone color, very beautiful.

Thanks Bethany, you're right, I think I'm learning from these copies, even though they're digital, I'm trying to think of it as if I'm applying actual paint(glazing/scumbling).
I have 3 or 4 portraits I've put aside for having gotten stuck on the skin-tones, so I've put down the brushes, and I'm going to do some more of these studies.
Save a lot of paint too!
I'm almost done with a Bouguereau study, it's amazing the colors he has in there!

Re: Girl

Youve done wonderful with the digital process, wish I could say the same. The lighting and features are well rendered here.
