New Linocut test print

Hi, haven't been here in a while and haven't done much art lately either. But I'm excited about this new print and wanted to share...I need to do a little more work on the body of the donkey foal, but there are some things about this I like a lot. You know how it is, when you're carving you never really know how it's going to translate into a print!

Very nice image... Super, in fact! Nice composition and good balance of dark and white.

Eddie, I would be excited about this too, it's a lovely print. Really nice varied directional cuts. I agree with Diane, it has a great dark/light balance. How did you prevent those background bits from printing? I always have problems there. Did you wipe them from the plate before printing it?

Re: New Linocut test print

thank you both! Magrit, I didn't want any background to print on this one, with the exception of the little bits right around the donkeys which I rather like. So - and this is unusual for me - I just carved the background away really deeply with my broadest tool! I tried a second print to ink it really sloppily and I couldn't get any of it to print if I tried!

Nicely done! I like the variety of texture and designs in the figures and the variety of tone. When I choose a solid white background, I usually just cut away the lino... BUT i only cut on on mounted linoleum. This would be hard to cut away without some mess as it is mounted. But it looks good.

Well done! Your handling of line to create the textures in the donkey's coat is wonderful.

I'm a sucker for animals anyway, but I love this! Beautiful crop, great texture.
