Melon Refreshment

Hello, all! This is my latest painting done on a 11.75 x 23.5 in. slate. For this painting I used a limited palette of van dyck brown, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, sap green, ultramarine blue, mars black, and cremnitz white.

Comments and critiques are welcomed. Thanks for looking!!

Re: Melon Refreshment

Very refreshing José! Beautifully painted, love the restricted palette. Great textural effect on your melon....and very well done ellipses!

Hi José, I really like your painting style! I didn't know you could paint on slate but it looks so good. The texture is a nice contrast to the elements in your painting. Nice changes to your "Breakfast" painting too!

Re: Melon Refreshment

Hi, Donna! Thank you for your very kind comments. Yes, slate can be used as a support for painting..some italian old masters like Titian and Sebastiano del Piombo used it in some of their paintings. This was my first time that I used slate as a support and had lots of fun using it. It´s a very nice support to paint with.

Nice idea, painting on slate! I like it, and it suits your subject.
Happy painting,

Re: Melon Refreshment

The slate gives it a wonderful texture. Would like to see the objects closer together, perhaps overlapping.
