Your works so far is very nice. Love the bird with his wings unfolded.

There is plenty of free software available for macs and pc that will allow you to load in the photo and play around with the background:

Paint from paint.net is fairly simple to use and full of options
Gimp is the free code photoshop equivalent, sometimes even more powerful

You can even get a trial of photoshop from Adobe.

Personally, I use photoshop and paint.net to do mock ups after I've done my initial drawings. I can change the compositions around, move elements of the drawings, etc without spending hours erasing and redrawing.

here's this drawing finished, the photo makes it look really bad and the background is actually bluish with a few green spots at random as well... Thank you to all those who took their time to give advise on the background in my previous post
