Tea and Beatrix Potter
Haven't been doing still life lately - This is actually one that I started months ago, got disgruntled about, and threw in the closest. forgot all about it until I happened to be cleaning the closest. After staring at it for a day or two, I decided what changes might make it work, and set about re-painting.
Doing this might save a painting, or not... I did lose some of the nice transparent passage in having to re-paint, but overall, I think it at least is better than nothing. The photo is still slightly blurry, but best I can do for now.
My last change was to replace the saucer from the tea cup with the little Beatrix Potter books - hence the title. This one is "the Tale of Benjamin Bunny" - one of my favorites. might have to restate the darks there, but waiting for it to dry a bit...

Re: Tea and Beatrix Potter
Deb...I love this one...so evocative of not only my my childhood , but my mother's before me and my children, grandchildren and even a great-grandchild!
Such a tender spot in so many lives it's bound to be popular! and I like the composition...and you've painted the various elements to this so well...your copper glows, your porcelain gleams...and the peaches invite you to pick one up and bite into the soft peachy skin!
Beautifully done

Re: Tea and Beatrix Potter
Diedre.. you can't possibly have a great grandchild! Well, yours was a very lovely comment.. I love those little books. These were old ones from a library, purchased years ago - I think they were published around 1930, and I am very sad to have somehow lost Peter Rabbit - my very favoritist one of all.. you're so right, they evoke lots of warm memories. I think there maybe should have been cookies in there too somewhere to complete the idea!

Re: Tea and Beatrix Potter
'Fraid so Deb...had my Daughter when I was 20, she had my granddaughter aged 20, and my granddaughter had my great-grandson when she was 19 - he's now 3! If I make it to 80 I suppose it's possible he could procreate before I die!!! So there may be one more for our set of Beatrix Potter books!!

Oh, Deb! This is gorgeous! Placing the books was a masterful touch and gave it such a still life story. It has a look of Richard Schmid.

Re: Tea and Beatrix Potter
Thank you Doug!
Dennis- I guess the changes were good then!
Diedre well I can see how the math works out- I have a 12 yr old granddaughter but I hope she waits a long time!
Carol- the book seemed to bring this whole painting together. Thanks much.

Re: Tea and Beatrix Potter
Deb,
You are an artist I look up to. You can put so much into a painting but ahve it all flow and work so nicely together, not cluttered at all.
Its very lovely

Lovely painting. You captured the light and shadows on the tips of the flowers so well. Love the composition. Nice mood
