September Song

Early Saturday morning fun , 11x14 oil. Trying to learn to lay paint down thicker with less blending - I'm a long way from reaching this goal. C&C welcome.

Re: September Song

Hey, this is great, Larry! I tend to put paint on thin, so I can understand the struggle this could be, to lay on thick paint. I like this painting. It has a really nice, vibriant feel to it. Well done!

I tend to blend, blend , blend. So I understand what you're saying. Good work!

Re: September Song

I like it, the colors are so vibrant. I can hear the elk bugling from here!

Re: September Song

I recognize that glow from aspens dispersed in conifers on adjacent mountainside. You captured that very well. Great job on elk, and it harmonizizes with rest of painting. I have same goal with oil painting..

Re: September Song

Thank you all for the kind words - this one was fun. I added a few "hints of hooves" to the elk this morning and will call this one complete. Since I had the paints out, I touched up a couple of other pieces that had some areas that bothered me. The "sisters" are related to my wife and are Montanans, so I guess they can be considered western themed (?)

Re: September Song

All very cool. I'm currently working on something that I intended to be big, unblended brushwork and caught myself doodling on it this morning w a little brush, trying to make it more realistic. I think I need a monitor!
