Some from past two weeks
I'll start with two drawings from a couple of weeks ago. One of my drawing buddies and I call the model Ms Twitchy. She can't hold a pose for more than a few minutes before she has to scratch, yawn, or shake herself to stay awake.
All the drawing are on smooth newsprint with either conte or charcoal pencil.
1. and 2.
This past week I did a little better with a model that holds still.
These are one minute gestures.
3.
4.
The rest are 20 minute poses.
5.
6.I almost gave into dispair with this pose, but I heard Kevin's advice: Think of it as an opportunity for design! I didn't manage to design the figure but thinking about it gave me courage to go on.
7. This chair looks a little wacky. I think I can fix that.
8.
C&C welcome and needed.

Re: Some from past two weeks
Maybe its me, but the feet seem a little too small in most of them. Other than that, I don't have any criticism.

Re: Some from past two weeks
I think A. M. Schaer might have a point. I too feel like the feet might be on the smaller side, especially, 6 & 7.
Otherwise, the development is obvious. Your head sizes seem to be getting better. Sense of volume also is getting better, especially #5 and #8.
On #2, I am trying to figure out why you have a sharp edges shadow running on the thighs.

Re: Some from past two weeks
I can see real development with your proportions, Kate. With 7 especially I can see the face measuring happening- all the shapes are there as well. You are also observing the value shapes and getting them with far more accuracy.
Good stuff!

No 8 is very good, I like the very dark darks and everything being pretty subtle and delicate. They all have something good about them, you seem to have leapt ahead since I last saw your work Kate.

Re: Some from past two weeks
Well, I hope this isn't a double post - I think these are very nice for such quick work. They get better and more interesting from 1-8 - & I agree on the feet - I used to have the same problem (at least I haven't noticed it lately)...

Re: Some from past two weeks
A. M. Schaer et al.: You are absolutely right. The feet are too small on almost all of these. I just measured my feet and they are about a head-length. Is that about right? That seems huge, but that is what mine measure.
Kiran, thanks for the complement. I have no idea why I have a hard line down the thigh of #2. It does look odd. I'll have to remember to avoid that in the future.
Thanks, Bethany. I'm glad you see more accuracy.
Trevor and Carol, you comments feel good. Thank you.
I'm glad you see progress, Tina.
Wanda! You're the best.
Thanks, Mike. I would love some longer poses sometimes, but ours are never longer than 20 minutes. Also, you give me encouragement about feet. Are your feet as big as your head?

Re: Some from past two weeks
Kate, a head's length for the foot sounds about right, though I think it is important to measure to make sure. Some good things going on here particularly on the last two. If I had one suggestion with those be careful you don't make her shoulders too wide.

Re: Some from past two weeks
Wide shoulders is another problem I have from time to time, Nathan. As Bill (Artist Oz) has said, smart practice is essential to improving, so thanks for helping me keep focused.
