Chef Maurice Lecourt
When my husband was stationed at Ramstein AFB, Germany, a friend and I had the opportunity to go to a cooking school for a week in Dieppe, France. Chef Lecourt was our instructor. One day when he was showing us how to make a souffle, I snapped the photo I used as a reference for this painting.
Reference: my own photo
Paper: Hahnemuhle rough, 230 lb
Paints: all artist grade, various manufacturers
Size: 11.5" x 15.5"
Comments and critiques invited as always.

What a fun portrait, Sylvia! He looks so happy to be whisking up some fabulous gourmet dish! A souffle, what else?!!! This will look so good hanging in your kitchen, matted and framed!

A fine painting, Sylvia. I like his expression and proportions are excellent. The folds in his uniform are very convincing, too. A nice memory for you.

Re: Chef Maurice Lecourt
Thank you all so much for greeting Chef Lecourt so kindly.
I enjoyed my week at the cooking school enormously, as you can imagine. We would go to a demonstration class in the morning where Chef Lecourt did his magic. Then we would return to our hotels at lunchtime and find whatever he demonstrated on the menu (along with other delicacies) to try if we wanted. Touring the area occupied us the rest of the day — even went to the factory where they produced B & B liquors. No free samples that day though.
Chef Lecourt had worked in the food industry in France from the age of 14. He was a chef in top quality restaurants for many years until he retired. Teaching the cooking classes was a much more relaxing occupation for him. He was a wonderful gentleman and excellent teacher.

June, I wish I had as well. I did the background first and realized right away it was too dark. I tried lifting it, but this Hahnemuhle paper is touchy, so couldn't do too much. I've kept the reference and may try painting Chef Lecourt again, but I'll do him first and the background second the next time around.
Thank you again for your kind comments Doug, Char, Debra, Bill, Rekiart, Pat, and Tony.

Vous voyez, mon cher Sylvia, nous fouetter les oeufs juste pour - oui?
Well done Sylvia, well done!
What a delightful tribute to Le chef M Lecourt and a tremendous memory to have hanging on your wall.

He looks like a happy little chef indeed. I bet taking a cooking class from someone so happy was fun. Nicely done Sylvia.
