Starting from top left: Trucks setting up carnival in the student parking lot. Corner convenient Italian store a block away from where I live.

Bottom left: Local produce market. This one may be my next big painting when I have the free time, and lastly the other day in watercolor class, students were doing portraits of each other. I couldn't stay the whole time because of another class I had to attend, so instead of doing one large portrait, i squeezed in 3 mini ones.

I absolutely love all of these! They are so filled with vitality. Doing the really small formats is a wonderful tool for compositional development, and allows test-driving multiple possibilities in a short time frame. The car thumbnails are little gems. It's a great idea, and something we all need to practice for those times when we need to pop vehicles into paintings.

Hey all,
Thanks again for all of your positive feedback. For the past few days, I've been bombing my sketchbook with the same subjects I've painted before, but in different compositions. I'm planning to paint them in 11x14 scale and hang them up in a new restaurant that opened up in town earlier this year. It's been a bit frustrating because I've just gotten use to paint big and have the freedom to loosen up and use my whole arm, but now I've got to go back in a tight spot, be cautious, be tight but loose and at the same time simplify my big paintings into ones that work with the space. BAH! I don't know, I may be over thinking my situation as usual! HA. Anywho, ignore that whole bit about everything I said about everything.

As you can see now, I've taken a break from that mess and painted a couple portraits of my lady. Painting day is tomorrow and I've got to decide on what to settle on! Thanks for the visit.

These are so great!!! I love the top page with the color added. Being a watercolor artist that is what calls to me. But I love seeing the ink sketches too. The one of the carnival setting up reminds me of one nearby that I need to sketch before the weekend.

I love the direct approach that you took in the watercolor portraits. They are so spontaneous and fresh. I hope you'll keep photographing/scanning and posting these for us. I'm finding them very inspirational!

Dear lord its been so long since I've visited this forum. The semester is coming to a close and sketching has either been replaced by side projects or schoolwork. But of course I've managed to squeeze some things in...

I've been meaning to paint the top right illustration for quite some time. Not sure if I'll ever get to, but when I do it will be up there in the watercolor forum! Anywho, thanks again for dropping in!
