Re: IFJM - The Magic Feather

April 18

The magic feather ahs brought me to Mykonos, Greece, a place I've dreamed about.

Mykonos is a small island in the Aegean. It is famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and vibrant nightlife. It has many famous landmarks.

First I meet the official mascot of Mykonos. This is Petros the Pelican, and he has been charming locals and visitors at the harbor for more than 50 years.

I love the dazzling white buildings and the narrow alleys here. It is easy to get lost in the maze of streets.

One of the most famous landmarks on the island are the windmills. They have been restored to full working order.

Here is the famous Paraportiani Church. It is bright white against the blue Mykonos sky. I will stop and say a prayer.

I'm going to find an outdoor cafe at the harbor, have some moussaka and maybe some ouzo before the magic feather brings me back home.

Another gorgeous destination beautifully depicted. Great info on Petros the Pelican, no wonder he looks rather plump, all those tourists must feed him treats all the time.

Re: IFJM - The Magic Feather

Debby - Thanks. I am having fun doing some new places and some places, like Greece that I visited sooooooooooo long ago.

Jacqui - Thank you! I remember Petros when I went to Mykonos back in the 70s. He was plump then too.

Leslie - Thanks. I'm having fun researching the places that I haven't visited, and fun revisiting places I've been.

I am ready to kick back and relax. I start dreaming of Key West, Florida, and the magic feather brings me right there.

I just have to do a tour of Ernest Hemmingway's house. I am in the room where he did most of his writing. His typewriter and books are sitting right here!

Here in Key West relaxation and fun are key. There are many open air bars and restaurants with live music. What more do I need?

As you walk around Key West you see cottages in tropical colors, porches, and shuttered windows. There are flowers, palm trees, and lots of roosters loose on the streets.

The highlight of most days is Mallory Square for sunset. It is such a celebration!! There are musicians, singers, performers...just about anything goes. Many people take sunset cruises, but I'm just as happy right here on the dock watching. Everyone claps and cheers when the sunset is over, and I am headed home again.

Lovely pages on Florida!! Beautiful sunset. Why are there roosters on the street, I didn't know that. Interesting.

I need to check in more often (and will try to do so). These are all wonderful - great venues, and wonderful selection of sketch subjects for each. The sunset over the sailboat on the latest page caught my eye.

Wow, I was way behind on your IFJM sketches, and you even came to visit close to my house! Every page is more beautiful than the last, is that possible?

Really like the typewriter and chair at Hemingways house. Funny fact about the roosters. Love the sunset, I'd cheer if I got to see that everyday too.

Re: IFJM - The Magic Feather

Rainy - Thanks. I don't know why there are so many roosters, but they are struttin' their stuff all over Key West. In the morning you hear so much crowing. lol

Debby - Thank you. It has led to some fun pages.

John - Thanks. The sunsets there are super.

Margo - Thank you. Where are you that I was so close???

Jacqui - Thanks. The sunsets in Key West are always such fun. It is like a big party every night.

The magic feather has brought me to Tuscany, one of the loveliest places I know.

Tuscany is filled with small towns full of charming stone buildings. Many of them are hill-towns. Even the smallest bar has charm and character.

Wild boars can be found in the Tuscan countryside, but I'd rather have my wild boar on a plate with pasta.

The countryside has many vineyards, and right now the vines are just starting to grow. I'm ready to taste the wonderful full-bodied reds from the last vintage.

I love seeing the wide open hills with the houses and cypress trees that are so typical of the area. The best way to get around is like the locals...on a vespa. Just be careful. I'll take a quick ride before the magic feather takes me home.

I'd love to ride a vespa. You made that boar look friendly. Nice bar but you always are great at buildings.

Re: IFJM - The Magic Feather

Lovely Tuscan spread.

I live just outside of Abiquiu now, just 3 miles from the great O'Keeffe's winter house. It's a glorious place to paint.
