Door & courtyard WIP

Just started this yesterday. It has a ways to go, lots of darks need to be added to build up the shadows. I'm putting it here to motivate me to keep working & finish it in a timely manner! lol

Would love to hear comments/critiques. I'm learning to paint better values, so that is the main focus of what I'm working on here.

Reference photo from the image library here--many thanks!!!

Re: Door & courtyard WIP

It's coming along beautifully! What size and medium is it?

Thank you!

It's watercolors, size is 8" x 11", so quite small.

I did comment on this but appears WC gobbled it up somehow over the weekend. I really do like what you've done here with the door and courtyard scene. It may be small but does pack a punch. You handle the medium well.

Hmmm, was sure I posted here but it could be just my age showing or like Kay said, it could have been gobbled up. I remember now, because I saw the finished painting and it looked great.

Re: Door & courtyard WIP

The server seems to have eaten the final piece that I posted, so I'll put it up again! Sorry for the double post if the original comes back at some point. I scanned it so the colors are more true now. Thanks for all the comments!!

If you had tilted the camera UP a bit, you wouldn't see a lot of Tiled are at the bottom. That would give you a chance to explore the roof tiles at the top a bit more. That's just me thinking.

Wow this is really nicely done; I like this perspective very much. Your door and entryway are inviting the viewer in. Wonderful job on the light and shadow! Nice job!

Lovely work! This may sound strange, but I'm in love with the floor; it really reads as worn and weathered by time.
