Horse Profile on Pastelboard

This is a colored pencil painting I did on Pastelboard using Coloursoft pencils and Prisma colored pencils. I wanted to use more colors to make him more vivid. I hope the varnish didn't dull it too much.

Thanks,
Debbie

I love the brightness of it - the main in the wind, the sense of imminent motion you can feel as if you're only looking at a minor pause in an otherwise moving scene

Re: Horse Profile on Pastelboard

I love the vibrant and varied colors you included in this piece.
One thing to consider on future pieces would be to vary the values a bit more; having some really dark areas will actually give your bright colors even more "pop" because of the contrast.
The pose of the horse is very nice, as though it has turned to look at the viewer, perhaps listening. The mane looks very silky and has beautiful highlights!

Re: Horse Profile on Pastelboard

This is a really lovely portrait -the detail in the facial features is wonderful. Also the texture in the mane and forelock is really nice and I love the vibrancy of the colours.
I do agree with Candle with regards using some darker values in your next piece but that is all I see that needs altering. He does look like he is about to step forward in interest .

Re: Horse Profile on Pastelboard

Thank you all so much for your remarks on this piece. I agree, could use more darks. Colored pencil offers so many variations of technique!

Thanks,
Debbie

Very nice drawing. I also agree that head should pop up more than hind portion...

Re: Horse Profile on Pastelboard

Thank you for your comments, Mannish and Chammi...I usually don't go for "colors", so this was a good experience.
