Re: Maroon Bells demo - paint along - students work

I couldn't attend the Sunday paint along, but tried a watercolor painting based on what I learned from Johannes first two Landscaping lessons I purchased. It needs work - not happy with muddy look and think I need more dark under trees. I tried Jo's idea of foreground in shadow from clouds and emphasis on background in sunlight. Also I need to add warm tone to snow areas. Think I need to try again.

WOW, what great work here.

Johannes, thank you so much for the class. It was fantastic as usual. If we get quiet in the chats next week...it's just because we are so busy trying to listen to you and paint our own painting. I so enjoyed this.

Holly, I love your colors in the foreground...I always struggle with that. Your mtn is beautifully done as well. Alta, your mtn was beautiful too!

Beart...I really liked the bark of the trees on the right.

MJ...I love your trees on the left and the trees in the far background.

Kathy your was just overall very beautiful.

I enjoyed the follow along very much. I will join all the classes I can. Loved it! I have never been in a class where we all paint from the same reference photo. I rather enjoyed it! Here is a pic of the painting I did. I wonder if Jo will have a chance to critic our pics.

I gave it a show in watercolor and found it tuff, but it's experience and I like that.

What a great paint along we had. Thanks so much Jo. I'll definitely be doing more with you. It was well worth getting up at 3.30am to be able to join your class.

Here is my paint along try.

Ok, I'm thinking I'm going to have to do a "do-over" I can't seem to get it to lighten up. I don't own any soft pastels...I gave them away long ago because they affected my asthma. I think this is as good as it gets, unless someone has any other ideas to lighten panpastel.

I will not comment on the submissions of the paint along because I am showing my original painting so all you would have to do is make the comparison with yours and see for yourself where you would need to make the improvements. Me pointing them out is no different then you pointing them out to yourself. However I am seeing that the paint along is producing some good fruits.

Here is my version of the Sunday painting in oils. I found this to be a very difficult study esp before our grass webinar.
Did the best I knew how ..

Hi
So enjoying seeing the paintings and comments. Eager for Sunday's class. Finally I will paint! I am very much a beginner and know that the only way I will learn how is to just do it! dor)

Dor, you will do just fine. Just paint along with Johannes. Piece of cake! And you won't need your down vest either! Stu

I love this painting; I feel like I could follow that trail all the way around the lake and to the mountains. I have just one suggestion. If you darkened the far edge of the lake where the water touches the land I think it would set the lake down better. Now it has a bit of a pasted on look, otherwise I think this painting is great!
