Rhododendron Sanctuary

Started last summer, and finished today. It's big...30" x 40" with 2" sides on stretched canvas. The underpainting is acrylic and then a couple layers of oil pastels (cray pas and senns). It's of my mom's house and spring time (now) is when the rhodies are in full bloom. It's like a peaceful getaway whenever I go to visit which is quite often Very peaceful. Here's a few pic to get an idea. Thanks for looking. This will be hanging in her living room

Rich,
Very nice! The sunlight on the lawn turned out great? And are those hummingbirds I see flying around? Your Mom will love this.

Rich, your mother will treasure this and it will certainly brighten up her living room. I like the lovely colors in the shadows of the trees on lawn and the lawn itself is pretty. The house looks nice against those pines. Well done.

Re: Rhododendron Sanctuary

Very nice!! Putting OPs on stretched canvas always seemed a bit daunting (especially a 30 x 40 size)! You did a great job, it looks wonderful!

A very ambitious piece. Lot's of interesting areas to examine more closely. I agree with Sammy. The shadows are really well done.....my favorite part.

Re: Rhododendron Sanctuary

Paul- thank you

Ree- They are to imply all kinds of little birds. She's got several bird feeders set up. It's fun to watch em all take turns on the feeders

Pat, ullahennig, etoiledusoir, Hal - thank you very much

Sammy, fishfan- thank you. She has already cleared space to hang. I used a variety of blues, purp for the shadows. Hog hair brushes adds a nice effect with the op's

Lalflen - thank you. it took awhile. Using acrylics for the underpainting was crucial. I went through most of my cray pas and saved the senns as much I could.

Re: Rhododendron Sanctuary

Rich, this is beautiful. I love the light and the shadows portrayed and the sky's reflection in the windows.

...and this is my 3rd time viewing this...I just love the light in it...
