Re: Bluejay WIP
The textures in this piece are coming along beautifully, I am especially enjoying watching the tree bark take shape -including your choice of colours .

Re: Bluejay WIP
Here's an update. I worked on the pine bark a little more. I think I'm going to work on the other trees & background some before I decide how much to tone down the blues in the pine bark. Thanks Pat, George, Etoiledusoir, Peggy, & Ali for your kind remarks. C & C always welcome & appreciated.

Re: Bluejay WIP
Lovely work Suzanne, has more of a pastel look than cp, very soft, really like the blues you've added to the tree...

Re: Bluejay WIP
It does have a painterly style to it -I love your technique. Yes, I was going to mention the blue in the bark but you have it in hand- I thought the birds head was starting to lose its 'pop' because of the amount of blue on the bark just in that area
I love your colour choices for the lowest branch in the foreground .
OOPS! I forgot to ask you what size paper you are working on?

Glad to help. I used to keep finches, so am pretty familiar, otherwise it would be hard to spot. Makes a big difference.
I love the way the bark on the tree is turning out. One more tiny suggestion, if you don't mind, would be to darken the bark a bit more on the dark shaded side, so that you can also then slightly darken the bark in the area around the white breast of the bird. It would make it really stand out. I also love the colours in the bark, the touches of blue really make for a pleasing tie in to the bird. You have a lot of patience for detail, and a really good eye for colour.

Re: Bluejay WIP
Lexy - Thank you, it's looking a bit scratchy now though, I'm about out of tooth
Angela, Karen, & Ali - Thanks for your kind words - it's 11 x14
frannydales - Thank you very much for your comments and I so appreciate your helpful suggestions . I darkened the bark a bit and went over the edge of the breast with some more white.
I've worked on the branches more and applied some OMS on the background with a paper towel. I don't think either the bird or the bark can accept much more pencil, but if I can get the branches and the background finished, I'll be pretty happy with it. Here's the update.

Re: Bluejay WIP
It's brilliant. I showed it to my dad and he really liked it too. The blue in the trees really harmonise the painting. And I loved how you worked this piece. Brilliant job.

Re: Bluejay WIP
IMHO I don't think you need to worry about the paper in that area not accepting anymore CP as your bird is really fabulous and the tree trunk and bark are a perfect foil for him .
I really look forward to seeing the finished piece as a whole -I really love your style .
Thanks for sharing this with us.

I am watching this with pleasure. Like your soft colours and that bark is certainly a challenge.
