Thanks Tommy, Gail and Debra,This one is from last WDE from a photo by misswiss. I thought it was a good ref to attempt transparent glass but I think I worked a little too long on this. I know I shouldn't fiddle but it is hard not to.

Wow Ros, this looks really great! The colored glass does look transparent and to me it doesn't look overworked!

Great work! Really vibrant colors. I think the face is fine in the last one you posted! Do you have a specific theme or element you are trying to work on through these?

Missed that WDE picture. I like the vase with flowers and background - they don't seem particularly overworked! The bottom of smaller bottle reads oddly to me? And, I am wondering about the sharp contrast between the top and bottom of the bottles? I get that the background changes the color but...? Not sure how that works...I like how you have some of the color from the bottom of the bottle into the top of the larger bottle...that seems to work better...I am now rambling...like the palette

Thanks Debra, Josh, Pat and Gail.
Josh - no particular theme - just trying to master out watercolours and hoping that regular painting of different subjects will improve my work. I am trying to improve my skills so that I can keep a travel journal that I won't be ashamed to show when we hit the road later this year.

Gail, I agree the bottles do look a bit odd and not really well drawn - I'm trying to do contour drawings in the hope that it will loosen my paintings up a little. The contrast difference in the bottles was meant to show the white lace showing through the glass - guess that didn't work out all that well.

This weekends effort was at a local beach - painting with a couple of friends in the warm autumn sunshine while the locals swam and fished.

Like the beach scene...I too am trying some contour drawing! Not as successful as you yet. I think that the drawing of the flowers and bottles was well done! I also think that the lace was well done! So cudos to you! I think that there is more flow to the composition when doing contour drawing - at least that's what Charles Reid says! I think your travel journal will be great and look forward to seeing it.

I haven't been doing much in my journal this month - but I have been painting - WDE's and Watermedia challenges. Todays painting is from the WDE - photo by oldrockchick - aka Lin. My attempt at a Shirley Trevenna-ish type of painting. I am on a learning curve here - attempting the styles of various different painters in the hope that I can develop my own style. More to follow

Ros, that's lovely and bold and simple. Great composition.

I think it was Ann Blockley who said we usually start out using other peoples' ways of working before settling on certain features that become our own. I know I am still experimenting with different ways of doing things.
