MfM paints Miami

Eh, Miami county, Kansas that is. So, first shot this year, wonderful weather and all that. The town is Somerset, KS. Very, very small... in fact this is about it. The view is West down 287th Street from Winsor Road. I painted with alkyd oils on an inexpensive 12x16 inch (30x41 cm) canvas panel. Here is my setup and WIP:

And as you can guess I stained the panel with Sap green as my start. Here is the final piece:

So, off to another year painting in the fresh air. Comments welcome. Have fun, Dave

There's some serious light in that painting! I like it a lot.

Re: MfM paints Miami

Hey, I'm coming to your area on Memorial Day. My parents were raised in and around Osage City, just west of you. My grandparents lived there and I had an aunt and uncle in Melvern.
I'm hoping to do some plein air painting while I'm back there.

Keep up the good work!

That scene would have been so easy to overlook but you made a really nice painting from it! I like the green underpainting - do you always use it?

Made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Your high key provides a nice new spring look. Painting well done concept to completion.

Love this, the distillation of the tones and colours is great.

Very very nice finished, though I like the half way point too. There is the very real gas station and the rest is so abstract. I think it could stand like that! Not sure what other people think about this but I have been noticing this combination in other works and I like it. The real part acts as an anchor or puts the rest in context. In yours I love the mysterious green distance.
