About a half-hour from home tonight...gorgeous spot, remote...in the national forest..
my setup and a smaller view of my 8"x 10" effort..
another reference view...
larger view of my work now...oil, on senso linen...

Re: Washburn Falls...
Beautiful work! Looks like my neck of the woods here in NY - foothills of the Adirondacks. Love your paint handeling.

Up state New York blew me away...the one time I visited. Even just an hour north of NYC...
One thinks of New York as the city, period...television I'm sure. But the vast beauty and expanse of the wilds north of NYC is impressive and beautiful!!!
Thanks Kev..

Re: Washburn Falls...
A beautiful painting, Larry and a wonderful place in which to paint. A nice way to spend part of the spring season. I like the way you handle the "marks" on the linen with the ol paints. Is this your "regular" limited palette?

Re: Washburn Falls...
Hey Steve...I did not add any other pigments, other than have been making more use of Cadmium Orange...
intuitively, I attacked this different than I might teach...because anyone simply watching would probably have more questions. I took so much time photographing (which I do now anticipating teaching online...webinars, virtual classrooms), and loading up some things on my Facebook wall....so, wanted to really move.
More important than what strategy I would employ...I had a finished painting image in mind. Besides...I lay my palette out pretty much the same pigment wise...
thanks Steve...you would really love this spot. Used some calf hugging muck boots to get thru a bit of water and rocks to a spot to set up...

Re: Washburn Falls...
I like the way the olive green tree in the central area becomes the focus despite being subtle, the feeling of being close to the water works well too.

Re: Washburn Falls...
You have such a nice sense of color, those oranges and purples really make it sing.

Larry, if I'd known you were an hour north of New York City, I'd have gone to meet you to paint! You must have been nearly in my back yard. LOL
I like your colorful interpretation of this scene a lot. It has wonderful sparkle and drama.

Re: Washburn Falls...
Thanks Jamie...ahh, that was quite a few years ago I visited actually, I was still or yet in the prime of my wildlife art career. Pre-plein air circa.
But...was amazed having my misconceptions blown away...upstate New York is beautiful, some areas quite wild and untamed.

So good. I love your trees and the way that water moves.
Have fun, Dave
