Re: Study

I really like your style - almost "outlines", and yet not. At first I would say no, background not needed. Because the sheet does not fade into the background, it boldly lines up to it. So the background does not need another color. Though the more I think about it, I think a green background would be stronger. It would compliment the model's flesh tones and contrast nicely with the sheet. Though you will have to add some green in under the chair as well.

Her pose and expression are interesting. I think you could have used a few more centimeter on top of her head. It looks like you reduced her head size one notch and squished her hair down to get it to fit to the canvas.

Very interesting. Post a new picture if you change it at all.

Re: Study

Thank you Frujin, Allison and La for the nice words, I really appreciate all the comments! I know there are some inaccuracies in the painting, I'll try to fix them and Allison, your idea about the green background could work

Re: Study

Hello spirit of things,

This is a very strong rendition of the female form..... I think it would acheive more gravitas with a background. Right now it is definitely a "study" With an environment in which the model can exist, you would give us a completed composition. I did a tweak to show you what I mean but the forum wouldn't let me post it. AAARGH!

Re: Study

She isn't beautiful but she is very, very arresting.

I keep thinking about a possible background and shadows but...well....here she is: a model doing her job and she is alive. She doesn't need extra fuss; she is what she is.
I like your strong drawing and flesh colours and my only little thought is perhaps for the softening of the 'edge' of the left shoulder and arm as that part looks as though it is cut and pasted onto the background.
Wow! A really good, bold study.

Re: Study

No background needed. Would take some focus off what is an extraordinary work. Fascinating.
