Spring is Springing

Hello,

Two 5" x 7's on my lunch hour from a local cemetery

an 8 x 10 from my lunch hour, the steeple is a bit too large for the church... ah well, a quickie.

My wife thinks I should add a little bunny to this to finish it off 11 x 14

A little dramatic lighting... 11 x 14

Thanks for taking a look,

John

Wow! My favorite is the last one. The tree trunks and shadows make for a very dramatic composition. Love!

Re: Spring is Springing

Hi John,
Nice spring quintet!
I'm a sucker for the trees with the blooms, so the second and fourth hit close to home.
The value pattern on the last piece is very interesting, and overall it appears that this has been a concern as of late.
As far as painting shadows cast over a path on your lunch break? Yeah that's the stuff. Keep on pushing, I know how hard it can be to meet the challenges of life while all that great sparkling light is happening right outside of the window.
These show a lot of growth, I'd give you clappers if I wasn't wrighting on the quick reply box.

Love the last one and the first nooner. Great light in both of them. I need to try doing a few on my lunch break (when I get one) myself to try and sane. Bravo to you for for getting out and doing them.

Also, skip the bunny, Easter if over.

Re: Spring is Springing

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your comments! Looking forward to seeing some Cape paintings from you soon.

Kyle,

Thanks!! I'm trying to take a new approach lately. I've really been trying to slow down when I paint, to really focus mentally and structure it right from the start.

When I paint I'm usually in such a rush to get something down in my limited time-frame that it always seems to compromise my work. What I've found is that if I take the time and make my best effort at a good start the rest of the painting goes much smoother and often is much less effort, it seems to just flow.

Thanks again for taking the time to tell me what you see in my work,

John

Re: Spring is Springing

Mike, Thanks for your comments! Warning: it's tough to paint on your lunch hour and not get frustrated, it's over before you know it.

Nooner ... brings other things to mind

Chris, I know where you coming form regarding design work, sometimes you can't come up for a breath.
