Reaching for the Rose

Not sure if you folks have seen this one before. I forget when I put a piece in here. It is watercolor. Size 2 1/2" 3 1/2". Do not paint with watercolor it seems. I like the acrylic so much that my watercolors sit and get dry. Owell.

Re: Reaching for the Rose

Jim your rose has really nice depth and a delicate feeling. Did you use a picture, real or imaginged rose? Good job on the foreshortening of the hand, something I can't seem to master. Kurlie

Re: Reaching for the Rose

It was the last rose of the year. It was real late in the afternoon, Novermber.
I saw the last rose of the year. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon and I saw the image. I grabbed my digital camer and used my left hand and went for the rose. That rose is so bright!! I was looking for the old shot and was going to share but good not mind it. Owell. Thanks for the comment!!

Re: Reaching for the Rose

Jim, this is a great little painting. I love the Rose, and the hand is wonderfully rendered.

Sorry that I am so slow to post from your comment. Like two years off!!! Anyway, thank you. That part with the hand was easy for some reason. I just gave that painting to my secretary where I work. I gave it to her for Christmas. She had retired that Christmas. She loves it!! It is so nice to be able to share.

Fantastic work and what a challenge taking on the hand. Beautifully done!

Re: Reaching for the Rose

As I read your post I see that it also has a symbolic meaning to the receiver of this piece! How blessed is that Church Secretary! Artists have difficulty in painting hands anyway, to be able to draw a hand foreshortened and in MINIATURE, now that is amazing! I love the glow of the rose and the leaves are wonderfully done!!!
