My first oil painting that I'm making as a gift

I've never made an oil painting before but I wanted to create this as a gift for a close friend of mine. I've been looking at it so much I was hoping for some outside impressions. Any constructive criticism, tips and comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would never have dreamed this was your first oil painting! Good job!

I love the cozy look of the lighthouse; even surrounded by those high waves it seems a bastion from the storm. Love the waves!

I would soften some hard edges on the undersides of the clouds; but don't mess with the clouds around the lighthouse ... the look of the glow of light softly lighting the cloud area is soooo pretty.

Thank you for the feedback! My friend convinced me to try painting after she saw a pencil sketch I did a long time ago. I haven't been into art since high school but I'm pleased with how this has turned out. And I agree with the softening of some of the clouds, I will work on that next and then should be able to call it finished soon
