First ever pastel painting
This is my first ever pastel painting which I humbly submit to this forum. I am totally new to pastels, and totally new to use a fixativ. I was lured into doing this by participating in the goal Thread of pastel talk.
The flowers are fantasy flowers. Painted on Din A5 pastel paper. Critique and comments are welcomed!

Welcome to the Pastel forum Ulla. Beautiful floral, you have a wonderful sense of color. Fear not, we are a fun group over here. I find the people very supportive and encouraging, I hope you will too. Pastels are delightful and very forgiving. Enjoy your newfound medium!

Well done Ulla! I knew you'd get sucked in to pastels by the pastel addicts in the Goalpost! Be resigned, there is little hope for you now but to stick around here
Good work! Nice line and use of colour!

Re: First ever pastel painting
Thank you, Chris and Ruth! I didn't feel like uploading this first. But then I overcame my fear.
By the way: I must have gone crazy on pastels because I bought myself a set of 24 oil pastels, too....

Well done Ulla, now you are addicted too. That is what happens when you get dusty.
One thing you cannot mix soft pastels with oil pastels.

Re: First ever pastel painting
Great start, Ulla! I like the accents of violet on the pink petals, they look good. Beautiful strong color. Variegation in the stems is awesome too, like sunlight dappling them.
I hope you keep going with pastels, your first painting is lovely. I like the way they overlap too, good crossings!

Thank you for your encouraging comment! Yes, I know that you cannot mix those two kinds of pastels. And is it right that on Wetcanvas there is a forum for soft pastels and one of oil pastels? So I have to go over to the oil pastel forum when posting a piece made with oil pastels?

Thanks Doug, Marina and Robert for your motivating and encouraging comments! I will have to look up your website, Robert, because I want to try out oil pastels as well!

Ganz nicht slecht! Sehr gut! Keep on going. Your sense for colours will bring forth more and better pastels. Like the people in this thread said: pastels are addictive!

Welcome to the pastel forum Ulla! I think you find the soft pastels fun to work with and likely become addicting! Lots of great help from many great folks in this forum.

Off to a great start. I started only a year ago and am having so much fun and learning so much from all of the helpful artists who are active on here. Welcome and enjoy your pastels.
