ASFA -- any opinions?

Does anybody here know about ASFA, the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists? Any opinions? What do they do, and is it worth joining? I hear they give out the Chesley Awards, but what else is it they do?

Never heard of it. To get more reactions- posts like this where you reference something would help with a link so we don't need to go find it ourselves.

ASFA has a website here: http://www.asfa-art.org/

Has anyone had any experience with them?

Well, for what it's worth, here's what Wikipedia has on it (apparently the Chesley Awards have been around since 1985).

I had never heard i it until your post. That's certainly not to suggest they aren't legit- in anycase, it does look as if they've been around awhile.

Re: ASFA -- any opinions?

While the AFSA is a well known and prominant organization i do wish to point out one thing. I have a friend who has been twice nominated for work in the monocrome catagory. But has lost out to other works that are "mono" (snerk) Chrome works

It was explained to me by a judge that a monocrome is a work white darks and lights of one color with an accent color. Let me tell you my college professors would be real pissed if i used that definition of a mono chrome
