my first with pastels - tulip
i was bumping around the website and found the pastel forum and was in complete awe! so much so, that i immediately went by the craft store after work and eagerly sat down to give it a go. i ruined the background, i think, by applying too much water. the paper is rolling around the edges just a little. lesson learned. i am going to try again this evening and hopefully achieve something special. no water! semi-hard pastel on 11x14 pastel paper and it is from a photo i took two weeks ago of a tulip...a dying tulip maybe, but beautiful none the less.
much love,
chana

Re: my first with pastels - tulip
You are off to a lovely start. I love the super softness of this and your blending is flawless... Very nice! Welcome to pastels. I am also pretty new to them, having just upgraded to a nice set but haven't tried them yet. Would love to see more from you. What is your normal medium - comfort zone?

Re: my first with pastels - tulip
thank you. i adore pastels! the works i've seen posted so far in the pastel forum are amazing! they have taken my heart strings! i'm just giddy about them. really. however, they may take a little more patience than acrylic, which is what i usually prefer. a few hours and i'm done. nice. this one i started today will have to be continued...deep breath...we shall see. thank you again for commenting. if you have any blending secrets, do share. and also tricks for getting at the details will be much appreciated.
love,
chana

I think this is special, love the idea of a less then perfect tulip, coloring lovely and the softness of pastel work is always charming...I think you did great!!

Haha! Just seen this after I posted my thread! we both appreciate dying tulips.
This pastel picture is beautiful and really brings out the delicate silkiness of the lovely petals.
It is beautifully lit too.

Re: my first with pastels - tulip
Margaretta, i saw your tulips. Well done! And thanks for the nice comments. I really didn't like my withering tulip in the beginning but well, maybe it's okay. The background is fine afterall and from what i gather, pastels are just messy.lol So, naturally, i was covered in dust. Joy!

I think you've found your medium. It's nice to see something different than your ordinary tulip.
