Today's Studio Shot - Current Oil Paintings

Having returned from art class, i am continuing what i was doing today. I want to get it ready for tomorrow.

Really enjoying my outdoor studio - Yes that is a beer :-)

I'm still doing very similar paintings as when i started as i'm trying to get used to a few colours and a few things at once. Rather than doing very different paintings each time. I'm really noticing that it is getting easier to judge what paint i need and how to do things. The first one i did (of the 3 pears) took forever to get to this stage. I'm now managing this point in 1-2 painting sessions :-) *squee*

I have NO idea however to do the cracked paint on the back of the second painting. I think i will have to get some advice over that one. If anyone has any tips.. love to hear them... if not I'll ask my tutor tomorrow.

Happy Painting everyone,

Hope you get some time over Easter to paint!

aye aye... :-)

If you squint you can just make out the areas where the cast shadows are to go..

Hopefully i will sort the cracks out tomorrow. It's getting a bit dark out for painting now. (Or rather my tummy is grumbling too much and wants roast lamb...yummy)

Happy Easter!

I thought that one still life looked familiar!

Very nice setup, it's getting to where I can sit outside soon, too. Last summer I would set up 'shop' on hubby's bar outside, it has a nice awning. We've talked about putting up an awning for the summer over a seating area on our deck, I could do great plain air from there, it overlooks a wooded marsh area.

I hope you dont mind me trying to paint it Toril, i asked over on the other thread and havent heard back. I really liked the idea. Great shot. I tweaked it a little though... New background and changes to some fruit features snd things. Ill keep you posted with what im doing. Can we see your version??

Your spot sounds great, perhaps we could see a picture of it!

Re: Today's Studio Shot - Current Oil Paintings

Still need to do a lot of work on mine, I don't have much time, hubby invited guests over for Sunday and I had to clean up the place instead!

I'm flattered that you liked my photo, enjoy seeing your rendition of it.

I have a picture from last summer - this is our shared 'rec area':

Great outdoor area. IT's so nice being able to paint where the paint fumes don't get you.

One day i'm going to have to paint that budha...lol

Good luck with the painting, i love seeing different renditions of the same photo. It's always so amazing how different they can all end up.

Happy painting

Re: Today's Studio Shot - Current Oil Paintings

Here is the update. Just got back from class...

It still needs some tweaking before i can begin with the colours.

I am really enjoying the underpaintings. Even though they are perhaps now quite the traditional underpaintings.

I want to paint a baby pig, when i am finished with fruit..lol They are sooo cute :-)

Nice... One tip: the table just front of an object (that is just in front of the cast shadow) usually is a bit lighter than the surrounding area, because the object reflects some light onto it. This really makes the object sit on the table top .............................

Nods, I'll get on that. Havn't really got into the shadows yet. Flying floating fruit will have to wait for another few days :-) I'm now back at work....sigh...
