Village painting

Hi! I'm a watercolor beginner and with art in general so I would really appreciate tips and comments you might have. And apologies in advance if I posted this in the wrong place. Here's one of my works.

This was done using a mix of Winsor and Newton pan colors and Cotman colors. The lighter patterns were done using a mix of the watercolors and white acrylic paint. I used 200 gsm 9x12 inches Canson watercolor pad paper. The colors are much brighter in person. I think that I have a lot to improve on but this is pretty much "my style" - basic and colorful figures with lots of patterns. Again, constructive criticism is welcome! Thanks for looking!

Re: Village painting

Wonderful. I love the playful effect it gives. If you can write as well, put together a children's story book!!

Re: Village painting

Welcome to the forum! What a beautiful and cheerful painting! You must have a beautiful mind to be able to see such a lovely colorful view. I don't know how to critique such a theme, but from a technical standpoint, if you can maintain your washes a little smoother , like in the sky, and the edges a bit straighter and confident, like the roof edges, this will go up a few more notches from the already top notch work you produce.

Re: Village painting

I agree that it has a patchwork quality. It is beautiful and has a special decorative look. I like it. Do some more.

Buen trabajo. Me gusta más la parte derecha porque hay elementos que rompen la monotonía.-

Re: Village painting

Thank you everyone, for the kind and very specific comments and tips. It gives me a good idea of what I should still work on! I know I'll be learning lots from all of you as I read and post more here. Thanks again!

Oh, and to lucifuge, that is actually one of my goals. I would love to write and illustrate a children's book someday!
