Charlie and Jesus (Hey-sous) the parrot

I painted to this one for a good friend who bid on a gift certificate for a 12"x12" pet portrait. It was for a Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser and Lucy put on an amount way more than the value of the certificate, so when she asked me to do a painting of her son WITH his pet I could not refuse. The painting was a bit of a struggle, I'm not used to doing portraits of people (as opposed to animals) and I had broken the single light source rule when taking my reference photos - there was a skylight above them in adition to a window to the left. Anyway, here is the result of a combination of two reference photos. Charlie looked better in one, and I really liked how Jesus was snuggling against his cheek in the other. It's 16"x20", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

Frank, this is a wonderful portrait -- both painterly and tender. I am so glad you posted it.

this is wonderful, hearttouching and extremely well painted. your handling of the light is masterful, IMHO.

I really hope to see more of your work here!

I don' know what it means when you got goosebumps, but I got goosebumps as I looked at that. I think goosebumps are a good thing...

I love this!- the story and especially the painting!
You have handled the subject beautifully, and it certainly looks like you are a portrait painter- of humans and birds!
