"Balance" (x-post Pastels)

Hi everyone - this is my first post here with you dedicated still life painters. There sure is a lot of very inspiring work in this forum! This one started out as a desire to try to paint bricks (so much fun!) and to make use of an onion with sprouts. I know it's an odd set-up but sometimes it's fun to try something new. I painted this from life with the objects in a box, lit from a hole in the side. pastels on UArt paper, 13 x 17

Nice balanced use of warm reds and oranges with cool blue and green colors. There´s so much more balance to this painting..it matches the title. Good work!

Thank you José and Deirdre. A few people in the Pastel forum are recommending that I remove the folds from the cloth in the background so I have to think about that. I don't want that area to be distracting.

The reason it might distract is because it's nearly a clone of the onion tops...you could equally add a few more folds and balance it more perhaps?

Good idea, Deirdre, but I already took the folds out and made it more of a solid background. I guess I am a simple painter at heart and will leave things like folds to others who know what they're doing!
