"Unable to save avatar"

Hello. . . for a few weeks I have been off and on trying to change my avatar. I have done it a gazillon times in past with no problems and I know the size is ok but it always gives the message "Unable to save avatar"

Is this something with the site as a whole or with my account? What can I do. . .

This is a current glitch in the system, it is not your account. Some have found that changing the size of the image you are attempting to upload can help.

I am a new forum user and have been tearing my hair out trying to upload my avatar. I followed the guidelines, have the correct size, tried other pictures, etc and it will just not save my custom avatar. Does it matter whether the image is coming from desktop, or a folder? I tried both ways to no avail. The ready made ones do save, however I really want my own avatar. I guess I'll try again tomorrow. I have the same problem with trying to upload the profile avatar. Hope the glitch will be fixed. Thanks for listening.

It is an ongoing problem with that feature and I understand your frustration. The techs are aware of it and I hope it will be resolved this year with the site upgrade.

Could you be more specific? Are you saying that I should try to upload and image and when it fails, resize it and try again? That doesn't make much sense.

Here is the image I am trying to upload and it is well within the size limitations. I started trying to upload it around 9 pm last night (PDT), until 1 am, thinking that it might work during a time of less traffic on the site. Tried again a few times this morning between 8 & 9 am, tried using a different browser.


If this 'glitch' is that serious, perhaps you should sticky a thread about it so members can stop tearing out their hair, and getting frustrated over something beyond their control. This is hardly the first time I have seen a complaint/desperate plea for help about this subject.

You are correct, others have asked about this problem and that is why we have this Forum.
An oddity of the glitch is that some members have had failure until they re-size the avatar image to a square- for some reason the uploader accepted it at that point.

Try it around 2 am, EST when WC is quietest and the servers aren't working too hard, and if it doesn't work, wait awhile, but just keep trying. I finally got mine to load, and it just seems to depend on whether the site is feeling up to task in that moment, not what browser, specific image size you are using etc (as long as it falls within the guidelines) or any other 'tricks'. Really it's like roulette, you just have to keep spinning until it works.

I don't think that having an avatar is worth that much trouble.
It won't even use a URL link.

I've been trying to upload a pic of me for months--on and off--using different browsers, changing the shape, saving within the proportion parameters, etc....no no avail. I'll just stick to one of the masters paintings until I try randomly and it works! no sweat!
