Sun Dried Sunflower Oil

As an oil painter I was always told that sunflower oil was regarded as a 'non-drying oil'! However I came across the following site, which is a 'tempera' painting site.

http://waxeggoil.atspace.com/recipes.html

The author states he uses 'Sun Dried Sunflower Oil' as a medium. Is this possible with tempera painting. I know it is not with oils. I have emailed him and I am awaiting his reply. Just thought I would ask the experts.

Re: Sun Dried Sunflower Oil

It's a semi-drying oil. You can tell by it's iodine value which is rather high compared to say olive or castor oil, but less than linseed.

Combining egg yolk and oil is nothing new. Commercial brands of tubed egg tempera paints also contain oil, safflower I believe.
