Songbird - reworked acrylic MI

22x30 acrylics on Strathmore Gemini 140 lb cold press paper, a reworked image from a week ago, and I hope this image experiment is better than the pastel blah that it was. After using the cut-out filter in PhotoShop I printed it, but my printer was low on ink because it sure didn't resemble the monitor much. So I used my iPhone monitor and the print to totally repaint the bird. I did let the leaves remain as I enjoy those stamped ones. This is a different look and way of painting for me, so please let me know if you like it or don't.

BEFORE version. This was drawn from a tiny salt shaker.
C&C welcome

I think it's a big improvement! Like you said, the pastel colors, although they worked ok, didn't make a big impact. I love it now though, that is so vibrant and alive!

I'm not sure how you got there! Did you edit the image in photoshop then repaint the original, or is the image a print after editing in photoshop?

While the first one(the after) is more vibrant in the color department and do like the background, but I think I prefer the soft colors and watercolor look to the second(the before)one the best..

Hi, I like the second one for it's snap. The bird looks capable of flying where the first one needs life. I like the concept and it looks like fun. Goshawk

Thanks!
Yes, I edited the image in PS using the cut-out filter, then used both monitor screen and a printer (which didn't print same colors) and painted over the original. I'll post the PS version if you'd like to see it.

The pastel is soft and lovely, but the acrylic IS an improvement! Love the deeper values!!

Well painted -
but IMHO - more space around - its a problem to clip parts of the face away (bill )

Thanks Brenda and Egon...it seems I cropped his bill in PhotoShop too much but IRL it isn't.
