Grand Canyon

Here is a 16x20 studio piece I did recently, an image of the Grand Canyon. Also is a detail shot, followed by some photo and plein air references.

"A Grand Calm" 16x20, oil

detail:

two plein air sketches for reference:

(used more for color than details of the scene)

I really like the first one. The plants were done quite well!

Re: Grand Canyon

It's really good to see these. I'm starting to do more paintings from plein air sketches, as I've just given up on using photos, and your work here is helping my learning curve, which seems to be stalled at the moment. Thanks, Michael. Show more, please.

Re: Grand Canyon

Michael!!!

I think that this is one of my favorites. I love the direction that your work has taken in the last couple of years! I'm still slugging away with pastels and watercolor! Still go through your book! Still doing plein air!

This is so beautiful..the colors, the depth you've achieved, and how you've taken me right into the COI! Perfect.
