Re: Blue Rapture

Thanks for following my progress Simone and Jennifer and Robert.

I am listening to Adele and I can't help but think of Rolling in the Deep.
I have expanded my colours to include aquamarine and light aqua and indigo and true blue and aquamarine.
I had trouble interpreting my photo with respect to the RHS ... but I am not afraid to improvise when in doubt.
I draw with the eraser and I scribble texture.
I am having fun with this image for that reason ... I am trying new things ... including solvents.
Just to be clear I mean solvents on paper ... I am not into substance abuse.

Next step to work into the white expanse.
I also think I need to go darker with what I have done to this point ... but that is for later days.

Thanks for looking
Richard

Re: Blue Rapture

Richard, I can feel the turbulance of the water. I also add touches with my electric eraser. It really does add something to the picture. Great Job!

Re: Blue Rapture

Gale thanks for your message ... I am too nervous to try an electric eraser ... I am afraid I might damage the paper ... so I just use old elbow grease and vinyl erasers. I guess at the end of the day ... it's what works .. and what you are comfortable with.

I have been working on the LHS as you can see.
More indigo plus dark umber to create depth and light aqua and true blue for the highlights.
I have used so much blue to this point that I wouldn't be surprised that Sanford have put on an extra shift.
Anyways still fun ... this project has been a nice change.

Thanks for looking
Richard

This is completely engaging, yet at the same time, extremely calming.

Re: Blue Rapture

Suzanne and Lynette ... thanks for following my progress.
Dave ... I like to push and try new things ... and yes this has tested my patience but I have also gained a lot of satisfaction from the challenge.
Elaine ... I think we all are entranced with water ... always changing and always as you say engaging.

So on we go ...
Working now on the RHS.
Using True Blue and Light Aqua and Indigo ... with much eraser ... and some blender ... and diminishing patience.
I wish I could start over with some parts of the drawing ... but once you lay down colour there is no turning back.
And that is one of the reasons that I start a section light and progress to dark ... but that doesn't save the white foundation ... lesson learned. Proceed with caution.
And that is another thing that I have tried to recognize ... take your time ... and think about what you are doing ... don't get caught up in the moment. Better to leave it and come later, if necessary.

Thanks for looking
Richard

Re: Blue Rapture

Good progress on this! It certainly has a lot of interest to draw the eye. Are you tired of looking at blue yet?

This subject would drive me too distraction, but I am loving looking at it and admiring your effort.

I am off to find other work of yours

Re: Blue Rapture

Well done Richard. In my opinion the great pieces are the ones that challenge our patients and this one is shaping up to be a great piece. The details are so intricate but sublime at the same time. Hope this has provided you with personal satisfaction.

Re: Blue Rapture

Hi Candle ... good thing blue is my favourite colour ... and in spite of the monochromatic theme, I am still having fun with this.

Hi Marie and Ali ... thanks for your comments ... this drawing is not difficult it, just takes a lot of patience. Trust me, you can do it too.

Hi Elaine ... I am pleased that you can sense the motion and turbulence ... that was certainly one of my goals.

Hi Jeff ... the projects that stretch our abilities are probably those projects that we learn most from ... even if the lesson is, I will never do this again. (Just kidding).

So what have I done since last posting ...

Well for starters, I have just returned from vacation ... I have spend some time on the seas of blue rapture. I think I have some great reference pictures if I choose to create a series. I can add blue lagoon and blue turbo and blue breeze ... assuming I can stomach more blue.

As for this project ... I think I have LHS mostly done and now I am working up the central part of the water plume.

Thanks for looking
Richard
