Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

I've commented briefly Meryl - in acrylics - but must add how I love the bits of twigs and bush catching the light in the foreground.

You should be very proud of this

Elaine - when L. fixes the door/hole, maybe you should do a bit if trompe l'oeil over it - door, window, cat in window, Willie in window seat ........ ideas are endless
What can be done with W's coat - is his type 'plucked' of a topcoat to thin it out?
Y'know you describe the reaction of people to 'socialised medicine' - that's the reaction here to 'private medicine'! - they think you're jumping the queue if you pay for treatment - even though, in effect, you're paying twice!

Nice day here, tho' windy. The Met Office say Spring has come cos the weather looks warmish and settled for the rest of the month - it's around 12C low 50s F and the wind is cold - felt like a gale on the top of our hill here!

Off to try to get a WDE done - the day just seems to fly by and little is accomplished!

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

LOL Meryl, I've been loosing the 'plot' a lot lately, just gotta stop spinning around in this revolving door...haha n get my balance back.

Maureen, good thought bout the trompe l'oell, actually have done that in a few places, the kitchen, 2 bedrooms, up here in my studio then I was told to 'stop'.. As far as Willie, it's the under coat that needs to be removed/thinned and I have taken him to get that done, but this year I'm trying the Furminator, it removes the loose down fur in undercoat so if he stands for 'me' it could help him a good deal. anyway. It will be like trying to keep his folds clean and clip his nails I'm sure...

Our temps are getting better, still in the 40's later in the day,but suppose to go to 74 by next Thursday , at the moment here tho it's 28 haha.

Will look around WC a bit then try and accomplish something myself.

Hi to all the peeps...Yup Carol Blue probably out walking on the beach some people just have the life....

See ya all later,
Hugs all round,
Elaine

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Having lived with both types of medicine, socialized and private I have to say that a bit of both is perfect. If you want to pay twice and jump the queue then more power to you. Those who are really crook go to the front of the line anyway so you really are not taking a place away from someone who needs it. As for purely social, being told what GP I had to see did not sit well with me especially when the guy was old and incompetent. When I complained, I was told that because of my post code I had to see this person. I was not happy. That was when I was living in the UK. Here in the States everything is ridiculously expensive and 10X the cost of the same thing in other countries. No wonder the US has a fairly low average life expectancy.

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Hi Everyone, top of a Sunday Morn to you all.

Mum thanks twice over and you to Noods.. Its really nice to be able to give someone something, you have done yourself and Im happy with this one. I t even got signed lol.

As pensioner Im entitled to free health care in this country.. Thats a bit of a joke really...not funny sitting on the side of the road with a ruptured appendix and they cant find a bed in a hospital for me or an ambulance to get me to another hospital... so I also have private basic healthcare that allows me a private hospital bed.

Our system is not perfect, you wait yonks for surgery on the health list unless life threatening, and they can pull the plug on that just as you enter the operating room if an emergency comes up.
In saying that, I do have to agree with Carol, its better than UK. Here we Can choose our own practitioner, and the Surgery we attend.

However one thing that I think is not fair.... If you need to see a Specialist, your looking at money on the counter before you get thru the door. That can be upwards of $300..... medicare will rebate a good amount of that but.... You have to have the money upfront to start. For some, this is not an easy or possible thing.

Some Doctors will bulk bill, and it costs you nothing... Some will accept the "Gap" from you, but both are getting rarer.

We dont live in a perfect world, healthcare is now a business. I hate these big multi doctor practices, big business is putting together. Their Doctors have now become Lawyers, billing by the time block and half of them dont even bother to look up from their computer at their patients. Patients are in and out the door as fast as possible so that the Dr. can maintain his daily quota.

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Hey Meryl, I didn't have to put money up front for my surgery for Medicare but did for my other insurance company around 400.00, now it's a 1,000.00. I had better stay healthy that's for sure..
That was apparently my co-pay for my insurance, hospital demanded it, but then they mailed me a check for that amount few weeks later. It's always been big business here, just getting worse and worse. And we are all waiting for this new health plan from the President to kick in, fine print says if you are a certain age and have a neurological problem 'they' decide if you receive treatment and that comes from a Neurosurgeon who attended informational review of the text...heaven knows what else it will actually say.
But in the end it's scary to think that the government will decide if you are to be treated, not your physician...

You are right Carol about 10x the cost here. And ending up with the wrong doctor on the other is a point as well.

I had to go to SS's Disability doctor, what a nightmare. It was the first time I had been out on my own since the accident and driving. They did X-rays, drilled me with tons of seriously stupid questions, then this one doctor took my BP, he leaves and never comes back but a nurse tells me to go to the front desk.
There I was asked 'why you do not take medicine', I ask what medicine and then all hell breaks loose. He screams at me bout not taking my medicine, screams for me to leave his office immediately and go to hospital cause I could drop dead any minute. To say the least I was in tears. People in outer room their jaws were on the floor, picked up my cane and left, called Lori so she could meet me in Goshen, and drove myself to Goshen to the Emergency Room saying a lot of Our Fathers. Nurse there could not believe it and my bottom number wasn't that bad and that's when I started the blasted BP pills. A woman calls me later from SS Disability and tells me I will never have to go to a doctor of theirs again and I think she hid my file because I never heard a word about periodic checks from disability. Probably had one heck of a law suit there but at the time there was just too much else to deal with.
So I agree getting some off the wall doctor, free or not is not the good part of it.
Medicare is a bit different because you can have your own doctor and they all deal with Medicare these days….but to have the best of both worlds would be ideal. Guess I will have to wait for that world in the next...haha

On a less serious note I got to paint today, didn't get too far but it was so nice to get lost in some strokes, hope to do more after I get Karlie's cake baked to decorate tomorrow, so should go do that.

For us time to TURN THOSE CLOCKS AHEAD, will be nice to see it stay lighter longer. Am not intending to get up at 2am to do it tho..haha

See ya later,
Hugs,
Elaine

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Medicine as I knew it when I was nursing has gone sadly, even then we had a script on the Nursing Home wall..... The last 2 stanza's read...... Artists cover their mistakes with Paint.
Doctors theirs, with Dirt...... getting truer every day.

Daylight saving here will end in about a month, its seems to change every year, so I cant keep up. I actually love it, more time in the garden, love taking Missy for a walk late late afternoon, (7.30..8pm) along the ditch. I never ceased to be fascinated with the ducks and waterbirds which still strangely enough have babies beside them or on nests.

Noods I know what you mean by Willys coat, My daughter Karens, pug Frankie sheds so much she is always in despair, wont allow him in the house now.. I never realized Pugs had that thick inner coat, German Shephards yes, but not Pugs. Missy having the Jack Russell in her is not as bad, but still sheds far more than the terriers.

Oh well think I might go and Paint... have been ensconced in the landscape challenge this week... Loved the reference photos... Have still completed 2 PP's though.
I would so love to get into the garden, have a Evening Jasmine shrub to cut right back now its stopped blooming, but bugger cant hold the saw so it will have to wait a bit. I only pruned this last year and is now 7 feet tall again, so this time its truly going to get scapled. Im trying to be good and leave it alone, but .... its costing me

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Happy Sunday one and all - or coming in to Monday for some!

Blue must be having a good time on the beach - least I hope he is and not stuck indoors being poorly!

Been painting my DS oranges today - actually quite enjoying it - good to be 'back in business' so to speak ........ then I think I'll do another canna

Have to go make dinner soon - what a chore!!!

I wish they'd bring daylight saving in earlier here - we'll have to wait til 24th I think - daft isn't it - we could getso much more done if it was started earlier.
I have all the hydrangeas to dead-head now the new growth is starting - realy looking forward to this next week and gardening cos it's supposed to be quite warm - yippee!
Two appointments though - one at hospital for my ears and the other at the Optician for an eye test.

Wonder if Ag has been climbing through any more windows?

Re: The Greenie's Room March 2012

Hello to all and hope everybody has a nice weekend so far.Mine is great, slow internet with hubby freaking at the end of the line why he couldnt see me waking up on our bed and going to sleep on our bed!!I explained,"skype is down my honeypot,so no show for you!!"
Talking about doctors, medicare, and stuff like that,a lot of europeans, particularly british on my home town(specially DH)complain about our system in philippines.Got to buy your own meds, got to pay doctors consultations, got to pay first before you get blood transfusion even if you are bleeding to death.Working in a public hospital, the biggest public hospital on my island(island bigger than the size of UK,populations are21582540 as of 2007)has make me loosen my grip of my cash most of the time. Was asign in OB/gyne Delivery Room, the sceneries likely are.....
Everyday theres 5 or 6 (minimum) woman, every hour waiting outside the door, faces distorted, savoring their labor pains as "me" ask them questions, like,"name?age?husbands name?adress?" No,usually we dont have records of them, they just come to hospitals when its time for their babies to get out,or when the witch-midwife said she cannot do it.Okey after that, they would be going to vital sign routine, then checkin time how many cc's it is..So to cut story short, sooner or later they would be put on the cooking bed( our term when its near),me go out to ask,Wheres the husband of Mrs Soso,Mr Soso answered in a timid voice,"Me".So I give him list what to buy "anesthesia, cottons, alcohol,bb clothes, surgical needles, threads, diapers for Mum and kid, etch etch.He said "I only have 100 pesos?1.50 GBP,will that be enough.,,wife doesnt say she will have baby today, our pig(cow, chicken carabao etch) is not sold yet..."...KHHBJDBKAJBXUHIU (as you heard the wife inside screaming on pain..Baby will soon be coming..) Me get my last bit of salary on pocket, send the husband to get what needed..ever heard of MEDICARE?no they dont know what is that!!,This is the majority of the people living on my island. So the point is if you dont have money, then pray for luck that somebody will be there to donate,if not meet St Peter. But if you have 500pesos,8GBP,you can walk in any day to the best Doctor(specialist)and getchecked right away that day without makin appointment, and still you get attended to.If you have international healthcare insurance,of course you will be a VIP.System might be horrible for other people but for those who can pay,its not.Furthermore,we dont pay tax like in the UK.But still in UK,got to make appointment,my GP sees me not even more than 10 min,and I need to make another appointment so that she could check me on other complains that I have. But in cases of emergencies,UK correspond best, beside its free specially in scotland, where meds are free.So which is best I would rather be if I'am sick?anywhere....I shall say!!
Oops, got to put the groceries away..me and my blah blah blah..
Hugs everybody!

Ag - sorry pet, have to laugh at your story - even tho' it's really very serious for the poor people over there.
We should count our blessings!

...and as for your tales about DH and skype and bed ........ too much information!!! - the mind boggles

Carol - we have a very good doctor and if I could send him to make you well, I would.
Get well quickly - stay at home tomorrow!
