Re: chenawanda stream-dunns pond swamp

Thanks for you thoughts Patrice and Jean, both pieces have me sort of stumped they feel unfinished, distant trees, rocks and gravel bar in the first and that rear wall of trees in the second. I do like the sense of movement and enviorment in the first and the sky and snow in the second. I may try to push each a little farther when i figure out how. Thank you, greg

Both are very nice and I also think you did a great job on the water in the first one! These are fairly complicated scenes (for me) so I hope you're proud of how these came out. I might have taken a virtual chainsaw to some of the trees in the second to eliminate part of that wall and let the light flow through. If it seems too bare sometimes a dead branch or two doesn't look out of place.

Re: chenawanda stream-dunns pond swamp

The first one really puts me in the scene, I can almost smell it!
I understand what you're saying about masses of trees.
It may help to squint your eyes, and look for the value, colour and shape that defines them all. You can scumble that in first, then bring a few shapes forward or not.

Hi Greg,

I like them both but I like how you have treated the bare trees on the left in front of the evergreens. I find those types of areas very difficult but you have nailed it! I also see that water rushing in the first.

Re: chenawanda stream-dunns pond swamp

Donna Jerry and Squeaky, I find i am more comfortable with lines and structures so these are attempts at reaching and understanding more of the beauty out there, I do like trees and a single one i feel i'm getting better, it's the forest where i tend to lose it.Your thoughts are helpful and i will keep pushing forward, here's two i feel better about, thanks much, greg

Greg, the barn painting is really nice! What a great composition and the warm color showing through from your underpainting adds a welcome hint of warmth. I always like the extra sense of depth from this effect too.
