well you are NOT alone in this habit! but I have been using mine tons more lately and here's some of how/why....

the harley brown eternal truths thread. (good guy that harley) on the last page or two he answered some of my burnign questions about sketching and made me feel so much more relaxed about it. it aint' fun if you're all twisted up over it! I have treated myself to an order of new pencils to go with those unused sketchbooks. and last time I got new books, I got the good ones!

I have now scattered them thru the house. so what if its not 'tidy'. its not terrible, and when hubs turns the channel to some horrible show, poof, I have a sketchbook right there! fun stuff!! hehe, when anyone stops, it also makes me look like a 'real artist' lol!

I am using them much more loosely now as well. if its a 5 sec. sketch of the dog, eh? who cares, doesn't have to be finished. (but hubs and his remote seldom move before I'm ready, hahah!) make a note. stick in a saying here and there. I came home from riding last night and sketched what I saw (and wished I had a camera, but with this sketch and other ref. shots, I might be able to pull it off anyhow!)

harley suggested using one soft pencil, so instead of a pile of them, one pencil, one s.book, one eraser, easy peasy. some are more finished, some are barely a few scribbles. and even if I don't get to the easel, at least I got to sketch. and its so FUN!

Re: Sketchbook Pages

you're welcome chewie, and ty crafor. cargo pants are great when I'm out on the bike - two sketchbooks, a camera and a selection of pens, pencils, erasers and a sharp knife. a small shoulder bag or back back as well. art on wheels

Re: Sketchbook Pages

I agree, I have been using my sketchbooks as finished work because paper is so expensive and cumbersome. Since I don't sell my artwork I have no need for expensive paper. Or so I thought. My mind has changed yet again after experimenting with scraps of drawing paper. I'm looving my art again.

Here is an example of my "sketch" of the Alamo.

Some random bits I had on my computer. I try to keep copies of doodles and sketchbook bits I like digitally

Re: Sketchbook Pages

If anyone could advise how I can rotate the images so they view correctly it would be appreciated.

Re: Sketchbook Pages

All you have to do is right click on your jpeg. and open with a program that is photo friendly. From there you are able to resize and and rotate images no problem.
