That should work Annie, I think you could even use a single edge razor blade if you chose. But on paper... it may tear, the canvas is tough.

The thought is that you can make a thinner line than with a brush... this may or not be true, just another choice I guess. It is good to have choices.

You are right Ozzie .... choice is a good thing .....and nothing ventured nothing gained .....

Robert ....thank you ..... yes a few loose hairs does seem to be the best solution ...... I just have to pluck up the courage and do it .....

That's a well-known watercolour technique Annie - so's the lifting out - can also use it with acrylics as long as the paints still damp (for the lifting out).

I don't paint horses - and to me this is super! I'd agree with Chammi's comments though.
Don't know about the musculature of the face and it may not have shown clearly in your ref.
Like the colours for the 'black' and the eye is lovely!
