Enjoyable read for Oil Painters - Color for Painters

This may appeal to those who have difficulty staring at colours on the computer:
I checked out a bunch of books from the Library on Colour. Some of them were too dry and technical, others geared more towards water-based media or a specific style of painting. Some had iffy illustrations.

The book Color for Painters by Al Gury had some very lovely illustrations of oil paintings and the abstracts displayed were all quality plus. There were some appealing colour charts and wheels providing inspiration for one to try their own unique palette. Not a book for an advanced colour theorist but an enjoyable read.
Also another book on colour for oil painters, that I have enjoyed over the years, is Creative Color by Wendon Blake.

My favorite is Color Exercises for the Painter by Lucia Salamme. Very little text, mostly exercises to learn the principles of color application. Designed around oil, but works well with any opaque media.

Many of the examples are quite abstract and expressionist based, but the principles apply across the board. The teacher taught my father, used it and taught flemish style painting.

There is a good one Color for Oil Painters (or something like that) by DeValentin that is good too, but hard to find.

Yes she did. There are also exercises that use nothing but earths. The resulting image has a Zorn/Morandi vibe.
