Scratchboard hall of fame 2011
Since WC had some glitches a few weeks back and the hall of fame vanished, it looks like it isn't reappearing so let's try again.
The 2010 Hall of Fame is now consigned to the bowels of WetCanvas though the link is there for you (and the 2010 thread contains the link for 2009)
Pick your favourite piece of 2011 and show it to us, giving a few reasons why you think it's your best piece of the year. (Obviously you can start now or when the year is over)
Let's keep the thread to our image postings only, this time, so no commenting on each other's work and the thread won't get too unwieldy - that way it's one image per post and a thrill to look at.
I'll start with my zebras, "Lifeblood of Etosha". I've always wanted to do a landscape in scratchboard and move a little bit beyond my simplified portraits. This I feel is my most successful. It's done entirely with the fibreglass brush and diluted ink applied with an airbrush, the first time I used one, and I've used the fibreglass brush specifically to reduce detail since you wouldn't see much of the zebras' indiviual hairs.
So, over to you!

Re: Scratchboard hall of fame 2011
This one has a special significance for me because it is the first piece I did on Ampersand board usuing Ampersand ink as the medium . Normally I do my coloured works on white boards using Acrylic colours. This one is on a black board size 12 x 9 "

This one should be my best of 2011. Size is 9x12 on an ampersand clayboard. Colored with ampersand inks and inktense pencils.

I think this is mine. I don't have so many to choose from since I am just getting started, but this was a color learning experience.

This is a scratchboard of a Somali girl in a refugee camp. I recently started doing scratchboards after not doing them for about 30 years. Great stress reliever.

I am selecting "Leah, The Fire Spinner" as my best of 2011. She has so many different textures and the flames were very challenging. This is an 18 x 14 board and I used a surgical scalpel.

I'm going with "Reflections of a Showroom" (working title was "Springer"). It broke ground for me with the depth and detail for the reflections and in filling a board that large. I think I've done better work since, but IRL this one just has an impact some of the others lack.

I chose "Mom's Buttons" 8X10, ...it was a nostalgia piece for me. Mom passed away 6 years ago and I still miss her. I also loved all the details which presented new challenges for me to try to recreate in scratch.

Re: Scratchboard hall of fame 2011
I could have swore I already added to this thread! But probably it got lost along with many missing images when they were working on the site. Anyway here is mine - 'Llama for Lorna' 5x7 which was awarded 'Best in Show' at one local fair and 'Judges Choice' at the county fair.

This is my personal fave for 2011. "Percheron Power", 5" x 7"
I used a scalpel to scratch, but also re-inked/re-scratched to create the stipple effect and added an ink wash over the entire thing (except for the whites of the chrome).

Re: Scratchboard hall of fame 2011
There are several contenders for which i think is my best scratchboard from 2011 but i think i may go with 'Tenderness' currently shortlisted for the DSWF wildlife artist of the year 2012
