Finished!
I know it took a while, but I had to think about how to do the border. I knew the Celtic knotwork was going to kill me, so I really put off even looking at it for awhile. Once I got going, I really had some fun! Again, it's too big to get on my wimpy little scanner at home, but I hope you can see some of the detail, anyway. It's water-soluble pencil, colored pencil, waterproof ink and watercolor on watercolor paper.
This is St. Gobnait, an obscure Irish mystic and patron of beekeepers. It's going in a show next month.

Absolutely lovely, mlynn! The colors are gorgeous!
And I never knew there was such a thing as a patron of beekeepers... I learn something new everyday!

Re: Finished!
A very attractive piece of work.
I've actually been looking at a lot of Celtic designs lately and thinking - Thank Dagda for the computer.
In my previous incarnation I used to draw complex, exact shapes with templates, compasses & freehand. These days I'm definitely using a vector program to do the work 10x more quickly!

mlyn72 ,Cool , love all those legends , its interesting to note how those Christian missionary's transformed ye ole tales in to Christian ones .
And I like that style a lot , nice feel of illuminated manuscript . Hope your show goes well.

Re: Finished!
This looks awesome. I kept going back to the knotwork so much it took me several looks to even see the bees. Good job.

Re: Finished!
This is very beautiful. I love her face, her garb, and the bees. Makes me want to draw some faces with colored pencil. Preferably on colored paper. Don't ask me why--inspiration strikes me weirdly sometimes. Suffice it to say, I admire your work.

Re: Finished!
That’s so cool. Love the tapestry look.
Glad I'm not the only one making an St illustration. Eventually I'm going to make one of these, still researching on stuff.

Re: Finished!
Wow, this is absolutely amazing. I discovered it through the facebook page called Ethnobeeology that used it in a post. Is there a way I could pay you for a digital image of the painting? I know you likely sold it but if there is an imagine of the whole finished product I would love to have a copy.
THANK YOU!!
