cp with pastel background - rooster
Hi, This is my next project near completion. Wanted to get some input before finishing. It is from ril, bad hair day rooster, by Orchidlover6. Thanks for the great photo. It is 8x10 approx, on art spectrum paper, background in pastel (sennelier) and prismas.
I used the art spectrum because I was going to try all pastels, but got nervous about the detail, so went with colored pencil. Let me know what you think.
The picture looks a little fuzzy. Took it with my digital, still learning on this camera.

Hi,
I saw a guinea pig the other day at a pet store, who reminds me of your bad hair day Rooster. Actually, they were calling him the Bad Hair Day Guinea Pig. He had all-coloredy hair that stuck out everywhere, too. I wanted to take him home so bad, but I didn't. But I liked the colors in his fur, the way I like the colors in your rooster. And I like your rooster's "I dare you to touch me" expression, too.
I'm not much at offering suggestions, but do you think Mr. Rooster might like a few white highlights lifted in his feathers? It might make the brilliant colors even more eye-popping.

I agree about some more highlights, otherwise this is coming along really well. It's so colorful, I like it.

Thank you Jan, Gemma, and Mycatbites for looking and your input. Yes, I think adding some highlights will help, plus using this paper, I have some white specks of the paper showing through which I need to go back and fill in. I am glad I caught his "attitude".

Great rendition. Thanks for using one of my library photos. I need to get my cps out soon. Actually I just need to do something creative. It's been way to long.

updated rooster
Hi, well I did a little work by getting rid of the specks showing through the dark areas, also darkened/varied the background a bit. I added some highlights where I could but not much tooth left to add much more. I also narrowed the area around his eye, too much white showing. I am going to attempt putting both the first picture and the updated one side by side. I got a less fuzzy digital picture this time, tried not to move when taking it. This is showing a little darker than it is in real life.

I tried several times to get them side by side, but hopefully you can see the changes. This was another great learning experience. Now, I've tackled flower, glass, fur and feathers at least to get a feel for each type. Not sure what will be next.
