Talking Coffee Painting

Here is a painting I did of my two friends, Amber and Jacqui. They are pretty weird, but I'm pretty sure they say the same thing about me (like how I paint with coffee)

I mixed tons of instant coffee powder with just a little water until it was a think paste. I then diluted it as needed and painted with it like watercolor paints. This is my second coffee painting and I am very pleased with it. It's on watercolor paper and is 9"x12"

Re: Coffee Painting

That's way cool...have you ever painted a picture of coffee with coffee? (In the same vein as (Seinfeld's) Cramer's Coffee Table Book that turns into a small coffee table?)

Re: Coffee Painting

Hmm, so you don't actually have to make the coffee, just add water to some instant? Does it have to be hot water?

How about if I have cheapo regular coffee, can I somehow get thicker paste with that? I tried preparing some once, but it was way too thin (no covering power).

Lovely painting, very nice warm looking color

Re: Coffee Painting

Thank you everyone! I have actually already seen a few paintings of coffee painted with coffee.

I use instant coffee because I bought it intending to drink it, but I didn't like it too much, so I thought it would make a great paint, haha. Regular coffee by itself is very, very light when trying to paint with it. You can try reducing it in a pan on the stove over low heat until a lot of the water evaporates out of it. I did that with some tea before and got great results

Re: Coffee Painting

Think of all the different tea colors you could get by using herbals...

I was thinking about trying that! I have successfully used kool-aid as paint in the past

Re: Coffee Painting

This has to be one of the most interesting techniques I've ever come across. Good work on your coffee painting,

Now would be the time to experiment with adding color your your coffee medium.

Thank you! I was thinking about tinting the coffee with some kool-aid, to keep with the whole drink theme
