Getting traffic
So I've got a website, a blog and a facebook page. My question is how do I get people to these pages? I am not having much luck with it at the moment.
Thanks

Re: Getting traffic
Have you submitted them all to search engines? (dmoz, google and Yahoo to start)
Do you have them in your email signature and signature on forums?
Do you take part in forums and comment (relevently!) on other blogs to start getting known in the blogging world?
Do you post business information that interesting and interaction (ask questions, share resources, help others) on your Facebook page regularly? (by which I mean at least once a day, ideally several times a day)
How often do you update your website?
Do you share your website and blog updates to Facebook?
It takes time. A very successful blogger once told me it took 500 posts before she really got proper followers. I've always thought that was about right. Also keep in mind that a lot of people might eventually read your sites, but you won't know - people who comment are the minority.
Just keep at it!
Tina.

Re: Getting traffic
Tina hit many of the high points.
Posting useful/interesting info on a regular basis, and visiting/commenting on other sites is key. Also, remember to add your web addresses to your business cards. Or use a links page to consolidate your sites into a single address, and put that on your business cards, email sig, etc..
Here's my example, which is free from About.me -
http://about.me/art166
I rarely meet anyone without handing them a business card with my URLs and email address on it. This helps build a following both online and in the 'real' world.
Don't forget to scroll through the many threads in this forum. There's lots of related info to be found in this, and other, WC forums.
Best of luck, PurplePei!

Re: Getting traffic
Thanks for the replies.
How do you submit the website to search engines? Is there a fee? I just thought it happened automatically.
I post regularly on FB, but don't usually link to the website and blog, just pretty much type the same thing. the problem is getting people there in the first place. It is terribly annoying that I can't even get half my friends there to like my page despite asking - even heavily hinting to one that I was having trouble getting out there because of it :roll eyes:
I have recently signed up for Google + as well but am still trying to get the hang of it.

Re: Getting traffic
I don't get a zillion of visits to my blog (something between 3000-3500 month), but most of my traffic arrives from search engine results.
Each time you write an article, ping it using one of the many services available such as Pingler, Pingoat or Pingomatic - if you write an article everyday, there's no need to ping, just do it once a week or so.
The ping is made using your main URL and not the one of the article.
Choose well where to list your blog.
Here are a couple of suggestions:
DMOZ (not guaranteed to be accepted)
Blog Catalog
Top of Blogs
Blog Elites
Leave relevant comments on other blogs (no links, unless they are a good complement for the article)
Join a couple of Etsy teams.
Write your blog's name on the side of a bus :-)

Re: Getting traffic
Hmmm...a bus you say...
3000 to 3500 a month still sounds really good to me.
Thank you. I will check out those things.

Re: Getting traffic
Hi, seems you are doing backlinks now. I see you have a signature on your post. These are backlinks to your website. This will help...
Forum signature is a good way to promote your website rank on search engines. The more backlinks you get, the better search engine rank you will gain.
And keep on updating your website, google likes fresh content...
Keep on doing backlinks, keep on updating your website...That's the way.

Re: Getting traffic
Hello Friend,
I think you should concern with SEO people just to get the traffic on your particular sites.

Re: Getting traffic
You need some text both to interest visitors and grab google's attention. A short explanation of technique might bring in other artists, but some facts about the creatures you paint will bring in a much wider audience.
Are your paintings for sale? Where? If so, work that into your text as well.

Re: Getting traffic
Hi,
I tried to comment on your blog and didn't work (at least for me).
Then you have that thing on the side bar that don't make things easy when wanting to scroll.
I'd like to hear others' opinions about that.

Re: Getting traffic
Weird, I haven't changed any settings.
Do you mean the black box? I thought it disappeared. I guess I'll have to play around with it more.
Thanks

Re: Getting traffic
Well, the sidebar was working fine and I wrote a comment.
Then usually (at least on my case), one needs to scroll down again to find the comment and enter the captcha code; that's when I could not scroll down.
