Wanderer above a sea of fog
Caspar David Friedrich
Caspar David
Friedrich (September 5, 1774 – May 7, 1840) was a 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter, best known for his allegorical landscapes. These feature contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees or Gothic ruins.
His primary interest was the contemplation of nature, and he sought to convey a subjective, emotional response to the natural world. His paintings often set a human figure(s) in diminished perspective in an expansive landscapes.
Practical art
1. make a study/copy of Friedrich's work
2. do a work of your own based on his idea of contemplative figures (and/or animals) silhouetted against landscape.
