Canon SX30IS or Kodak Kodak EasyShare Max Z990

I currently use a Canon S2IS 12 x zoom and would love to have more zoom but am finding it hard to justify a Sam's Club price of $369. U.S. for the 35 x zoom
Canon SX30IS 14 mgp.

or Kodak Kodak EasyShare Max Z990 12 mgp for $228. USD

The difference in mgp isn't an issue for me and 30 to 35 zoom isn't much difference so am wondering why I would pay over $120.00 more for the Canon.

I'm also tired of using double A batteries which the Canon eats and seems to dislike the rechargeables. The new cameras have the flat lithium battery.

Is it really worth the extra money that my budget can ill afford...

many thanks in advance.

Re: Canon SX30IS or Kodak Kodak EasyShare Max Z990

I had the CanonSX30Is and now I have the CanonSX40 HS (newer version of the SX30). I have found that Canons, in general, have a far superior and accurate color representation in my photos than Kodak or even Nikon. So for me, it would be worth paying the extra money for the superior results I would get with a Canon camera. You also might want to compare the durability of the Canon body of the camera to the Kodak camera body. Some of the Kodak's are really plastic-like and pretty flimsy looking to me. Just some things to help you decide....

Re: Canon SX30IS or Kodak Kodak EasyShare Max Z990

I started out with Kodak cameras and have to say I didn't have a single complaint with the pictures I got from them. Battery life, well that's something else again. However as I tend to do I always want the newest thing so went from Kodak to Nikon P80 with 18x zoom. Still love that camera too but after a couple years wanted more features so my last purchase what the Canon sx40 HS. I love this camera and one thing I love in particular is the battery life. It just goes and goes like the ever ready bunny! I also purchased 2 extra batteries at a reasonable price from Ebay.

I think I would go with the SX40 though because you can find it on sale for the same, or less probably than you say Sams club wants for the SX30. You most likely will get great pix from the Kodak too. I'm not familiar with that one so don't know what features it has. Only you can decide if paying the extra for the canon is worth it to you. Try to find an online site where you can compare the features side by side and that might help you make up your mind a little easier. For me, I decided the extra cost was worth it to get what I really wanted instead of suffering buyers remorse and wishing I had ...bought the other one.
