Have you looked at the art of the sketchbook in general? Don' know if this getting away from the point of your thread, but I just love the individuality of the sketchbook, the more 'creative' the better for me.
I try to encourage my students to use the sketchbook as an artwork in its own right; coloured, textured, layered pages or bits stuck in, staining, tearing, cutting etc
i suppose this could also come under the umbrella of journal art and altered book?
Have a look at "artist's journals and sketchbooks" by Lynne Perrella as a starting point ISBN 1-59253-019-2 or to get your juices flowing.

Another collection that is still little-known, but a rich source of Poussins in particular, is the UK Royal Collection, for example its search engine at http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eG...urelibrary.asp

Unfortunately all the high res views are Flash, and few have been published in high quality form.

Those Van Goghs are great, a lot of people don't realize what a great draftsman he was. They all still have that aire of melancholy that goes with Van Gogh.
