Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

well, like a few other's I've been MIA for a couple years.
I think I did this before but I can't remember what I wrote...
so here's 5, hopefully new, things about me:

1. I'm Stephanie and have been married to James for, oh geez , 18 years.
We have had several 'fur'children but no humans. Currently our child is Balto, the 8 month Leonberger. I'm 44 and need to do some yoga...

2. to pay the bills and get my human kid fix, I drive a school bus in circles around Vail. I've been doing that for 15 years. The kids here are great and I actually do miss them in the summer, well .... it's nice to have a break though... and in the summer I am a mechanic's helper. So far, I can change the oil and all the filters on the bus!

3. I love to drink wine but I get headaches now...oh yea, I'm 44....
but it's still fun for my girlfriend and I to go paint pottery and drink wine...

4. my art consists of a love of many different things...I like to build boxes and paint them, I like to throw pottery, I love photography and I love beading and I am trying to learn a little bit of sewing.

5. oh and ...I'm addicted to Leonbergers...yep, I subscibe to an online chat list for Leo owners around the world and all we do is talk Leo...

I love this place...there is so much inspiration around here. I want to be sticking around this time and keep in touch better.

oh yea...here's me and my baby boy...
4~footed love, priceless

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Sboutette my thoughts are with you. In April 2009 I had to 1 biopsy for breast cancer and a return visit 2 weeks later to remove a bit more. I am now doing fine and will have regular follow up every 6 months.

About me.

1 I live in NSW Australia. I am nearly 56 married to 2nd husband for 20 years this August.

2.I am a very creative type and have always loved painting and drawing but I also sew , cake decorate and I love to cook!!!!

3.My attitude over the past few months have changed for the better I am content with who I am,I dont stress out any more and I am happy to be healthy I figure there are people out there worse off than me .I think what you see is what you get and am at my happiest when I am in my daggy painting or gardening attire.

4. I like to travel and see new places and have spent a lot of time in the south pacific and queensland tropics snorkling. I hate large cities , crowds and shopping malls. I dont go on holidays to shop. Never been to Europe but did a trip to Canada and loved it and all the space.

5. I would be really excited if I sold any of my art work. I paint landscapes, flowers and have started to do a bit on the decorative side.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

I just spent an hour reading through this thread. So interesting to see how people describe themselves. Now I'll jump in as I am new to this forum.

1. I am 53, no kids. Married for the first and only time at age 40. Still going strong ( much to everyones surprise because I am a bit independent. ) Two step-sons, two delightful DIL, and 4 delicious grandkids. Have two fab med/big dogs, Buddy and Zipper who love following me out to the reefs. I'm a wee 4'11" so all wall space looks huge to me.

2. Air Force brat, 4th of 4 children, born in Germany but lived all over the world. I always have a bag packed ready to go! Have lived in N.C. for 2 years but moving back in Dec. to San Salvador, Bahamas where I first discovered I was born to be a mermaid.

3. Been a vegetarian since I was 13.( 40 years! Holy crap.) Love gourmet veggie cooking. Love food! Many jobs over the years. Have worked as a bartender, chef for 10 years, ran a back country lodge, taught telemark and downhill skiing, worked as asst. director at an Arts Council, peer councilor at a womens shelter. Silk painter for 12 years. Jill of all trades, master of none!

4. Terminally shy in person ( definite introvert) so I absolutely suck at self- promotion which is a big downfall. I went back to school with a gaggle of 20 year olds last year to study Decorative Restoration. I kicked butt! Really boosted my confidence realizing how all of my life experiences and odd skills I've collected help me in my work.

5. Been an artist as long as I can remember. Try anything once. Love mosaics, pastels, oils, acrylics, metal sculpture, silk painting, batik, collage, photography. Can't call myself a muralist having only done one ( and not finished yet ) but I am very interested in getting more experience and learning from the great talents in this forum. ( Also love to dance like a freak show at music festivals but that's another story.)

Great to read everyones stories.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Well, I don't remember doing this before, so suppose this is as a good a time as any.

I'm Mary, I live in rural Arizona [would love to hear from others doing murals & such in AZ to compare notes, talk shop]. 52, I have 3 grown children, and 5 grand children.

I love all sorts of creative arts and history, especially doing old fashioned things. I have done custom sewing, pattern making, embroidery [any type you ever heard of and probably some you've never seen before!] lace making, spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, as well as all sorts of painting.

I am a Donna Dewberry One Stroke Certified Instructor, Level II as well as a Wall & Furniture Specialist. I love doing murals and faux finishes; especially trompe l'oiel

In 2009 I was extremly busy with other things, and didn't paint or draw all year. But situations have changed and I'm painting up a storm these days. I would like to make DA my next career and ditch the current day job.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

So I'm pretty new to this sect of the forum, but I'll be posting here often in awhile, so I figured, why not introduce myself?

I'm Cayley, and I live in British Columbia. I'm in my second year of a bachelor of fine arts, and I mostly oil paint but I've also fiddled around with metalwork, woodwork, clay, wire (etc etc) sculpture, and then really any drawing medium. Art has just always been my 'thing', it's just what I do.

I love to sing, horseback ride, and go for runs with my dog (a mid-size super cute mutt). I don't get to do much nowadays besides the latter, school is pretty much my life.

I just turned 25 and I've been with the same guy for 7 years. I collect antique books, mostly for aesthetic (and because I love the smell) and I'm trying to learn to play the violin (I suck). I'm really interested in gay rights, feminism and the politics of Venezuela.

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

My name is Nick Cantrell. I am a happily married father of two. I have always been an artist - as long as I can remember. I have also done a myriad of other jobs as my wife, too, is an artist. I paint and draw. She does pottery and ceramic sculpture. We falsely believed that we could not make it in life with both of us doing art, but 15 years after we both received our art degrees from Auburn University, we are proving ourselves wrong! My wife runs the local clay studio at the Coast Arts Center in Orange Beach, Al and I am working from my home studio creating Batik Watercolors and going to art shows, etc, to sell my wares. My construction experience lends a practical view to problem solving and means I am never a stranger on a job-site.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge and learning a great deal from you all as well.

thank you,

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hi, I'm Mike and I have a problem.

Oh, wait, wrong forums!

I'm Mike, a retired sailor and steelworker. I'm working on becoming an artist. Not a lot of experience, but I think there's some talent in there. I've posted in other WC forums over the past couple months.

My artistic interests include:
  • Oils, acrylics, color pencils, and soft pastels.
  • Miniatures, land/sea-scapes and pets
  • Canvas, panels, and decorative/folk

I have a really weird sense of humor. I make myself laugh a lot, but others..not so much. If I offer you a nickel it is to spend at the sense of humor store where there is always a sale on. Maybe I need a new pair of gloves?

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hi! It looks like this thread or forum may have been inactive for some time, is anyone still there? I just joined last summer, while I was looking for some mural advice, and SO MANY of your posts, questions, and photos here were wonderfully relevant.

To introduce myself:
1. My name is Andrea, and I'm a big sci-fi fan, if you can't tell by my handle on here.

2. I've done 5 or 6 mural projects of varying size, and really hope to be able to get a small business going with them.

3. I also knit, crochet, read mysteries and science fiction, and am attempting to keep these hobbies (and painting) going while being a stay-at-home mom to our son, who just turned 4. I also want to learn to spin my own yarn, and sew or quilt. Too much on one plate? Not yet!!

4. I've been married for 5 years - my husband loves to mountain bike and is trying to psych himself up to train for an Iron Man race in the future. He's the fit one - I'm the sideline support, haha!

5. I'd love to own a farm/ranch/homestead type thing and do more gardening and raise our own animals, and ride horses every day.

So, hi! I hope someone's still hanging around, because I've already learned a lot from you, and I hope to learn more, and maybe make more art!

Re: Tell Us About YOU!!!

Hi NefHerder. Welcome to the forum. I can't speak for the other artists, but it has been a long time singe I visited the forum. I joined in 2008 and it looks like the last time I checked-in was last August. I'm glad you found WC it has been around a LONG time and has (had?) some awesome Moderator's. Everyone is very helpful and the critic section is fun to follow. You learn a lot.

I, myself, am a muralist turned fine artist and I've hit a dry run and will be lurking around trying to find some inspiration. I miss working large!

Good luck with the mural business! Robin
