Thumbs up Please View Others' Threads Too

...... and leave a comment if you possibly can

It's very helpful, to Newbies especially, if you can view and encourage other members.

Many of you are very experienced painters, using a variety of mediums, and support from you would, I'm sure, be beneficial to the posters.

Many thanks for helping to make this a friendly and informative forum.

I so agree with this! The problem for me is that I often don't know what to say, and I'm not one to just say something for the sake of saying it. I mean what I say, even when I'm wrong.

Maureen, great reminder for everyone!! Remember that first or second time that you posted and you were so concerned? Give them the boost that they need to know that we all started 'there'!!

TRW, if you check back here ........

Comments can always be made in a positive sense about what you find you like in a painting .... colour, technique, feeling, tonal distribution, composition.

It's nice to start on a positive note

If something jarrs, try to pin it down to something like a shape or combination of shapes, do they sit well together, 'kiss' where they should overlap ... does the colour set your teeth on edge/ .... is the whole painting lacking in contrast of tone and /or colour/....... does the composition lead your eye around the work? ..... can you immediately find the focal point of the work, or it lacking?

These are just some pointers to help focus on a work and perhaps find something relevant.

If you really don't like a painting, don't post - that's the simplest solution
